Amid a six-game losing streak, second year head coach Steve Fairchild made his first coaching change, stripping offensive coordinator Greg Peterson of his receivers coaching responsibilities Thursday.

Peterson has been reassigned to concentrate full-time on his recruiting duties.

"I just thought that gives us the best chance to win in these last three weeks," Fairchild said.

Fairchild and tight ends coach Marc Lubick, along with a graduate assistant, Darrell Ballard, will coach the receivers for the remainder of the season.

Lubick will replace Peterson's spot in the coaching booth on game days.

A much-maligned passing attack has struggled in recent weeks, and Fairchild said something needed to change in order improve.

"I think we've all got to get in sync," Fairchild said.

Peterson joined the staff on Jan. 14, 2008. In addition to coaching the receivers, he also held the title of offensive coordinator, though he was never the play-caller. Fairchild has called offensive plays since becoming head coach prior to the 2008 season.

Fairchild said Peterson will finish out this year's recruiting class and like all the other coaches, will be evaluated at the end of the season.

Peterson's recruiting areas include Southern Colorado, Dallas and Oklahoma.
