Eric Peitz, the Rams' starting tight end, exited CSU's 34-16 loss against Air Force in the first half with a shoulder injury and would never return. On Monday, Fairchild said that it was unlikely Peitz would be back this year.
Peitz is fourth on the team in receiving yards, where he has 14 receptions for 114 yards. He also has three touchdowns, which ranks him second on the team, tied with wide receiver Tyson Liggett.
Fairchild said it will be up to tight ends Norman Gee and Adam Seymore to step up the final three games of 2009.
