The CSU tennis team is in Albuquerque, N.M. today for the opening round of the Mountain West Conference championships. The Rams are the No. 7 seed, taking on the No. 2 seed TCU Horned Frogs in the first round of the single elimination tournament.
Head coach Jon Messick said his team will need to improve quickly if they hope to make it past the first round.
"We haven't matched up well against TCU," Messick said. "We will have to improve and make some adjustments to have a better result than the last match. Our team played very well (last) weekend against Air Force and Wyoming, and our confidence is at a fairly high level.
The Rams were blanked by TCU in their last matchup, 7-0. Still, coach Messick is confident.
"We will need to play at a very high level at the tournament and I think that our players are up to the challenge."
CSU's tournament begins at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center at 10 a.m. today.
