Penley out of contention for University of Idaho presidency

The University of Idaho named former Kansas State University Provost Duane Nellis to the helm of the school Wednesday, putting former CSU President Larry Penley out of contention for the $335,000-a-year position.
The university's media relations office declined to comment on the hiring and deferred comment an Idaho State Board of Education official who did not return a phone call from the Collegian Wednesday evening.
Nellis will be paid $298,000 of the salary from state appropriations, and the rest will come from the University of Idaho Foundation, according to Joni Kirk, a University of Idaho spokesperson.
Penley resigned from the top position at CSU amid a shroud of criticism on Nov. 5 to the shock of students, faculty and city officials.
Penley's severance package from CSU was about $360,000.
