COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Police were investigating how an 8-year-old boy obtained a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol that was discovered when it fell out of his pocket during lunch recess at school.
Colorado Springs police responded to a call at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Elementary School. Police spokesman Lt. David Whitlock said the boy got the gun from his home.
Whitlock said the boy's parents weren't home when he got the gun but he was under the care of somebody else.
The boy likely will not face charges, but Whitlock said police are considering charges against the parents or the caretaker for failing to keep the gun out of the boy's reach.
