Ashley Fornstrom may be done playing volleyball at CSU, but the honors from her four years with the Rams just keep coming.

Fornstrom, a former setter for CSU, was just named to the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame, receiving the 2009 Athlete of the Year honor Thursday.

The Cheyenne native explained just how much this honor means to her.

"I have been honored before in Colorado and by the Mountain West, but this is the first time in Wyoming," the four-year starter said. "I think it's a big deal that they gave it to someone who went outside of the state."

Fornstrom graduated from Cheyenne Central High School before crossing the border to CSU in 2005. The 5-foot-9 setter said the induction meant more coming from the place she grew up.

"It means a lot, especially coming from my home state," she said. "It is a pretty big honor because they have given it to lots of Olympians."

Fornstrom enjoyed an impressive career while at CSU, earning honorable mention All-American honors and MWC Setter of the Year twice, all while setting a MWC record of 5,371 assists.

Other notable inductees into the Wyoming Sports hall of fame include wrestler Rulon Gardner, broadcaster Curt Gowdy and rodeo/entertainer Chris LeDoux.
