CSU's finest compete to be named Singer of the Year

Sweet melodies will ring throughout the University Center for the Arts this Saturday as the finals of the Singer of the Year competition will bring out the best singers CSU has to offer.
The competition, narrowed from 25 contestants to less than 10 Thursday, consists of undergraduate continuing education voice majors competing with each other for coveted scholarship money.
Some contestants are hoping to renew their existing scholarship and others are after a new scholarship. Janet Morrow King, faculty sponsor of the event, did not specify the scholarship amount the winner and runners-up will receive.
The evening will consist of each finalist singing their prepared classical piece and then a faculty member from the voice department will work with them to measure the contestant's skill level, Morrow King said. The person deemed the best singer will receive the Singer of the Year award, but there will be other awards, such as Most Improved and Most Artistic, handed out as well.
The event is free to the public and will be held in the recital hall of the University of the Arts building on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
