The names of the student hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon and the driver who hit her we're released Friday.

Alexandra Carroll, a senior biology major, was struck by Christopher Winstead's white Saturn as she attempted to cross a very icy Laurel Street near the Sherwood intersection shortly after 4 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene said Winstead, who is not a student, attempted to bypass stopped traffic in the left, eastbound lane by switching to the right lane. Upon seeing Carroll crossing the street, Winstead slammed on his brakes, but due to slick, snow-covered pavement, he was unable to stop and struck her with his right-front bumper.

Mike Schofield, a senior health and exercise science major who witnessed the accident, said Carroll was unconscious for "three or four minutes" before emergency personnel arrived at the scene.

Dell Rae Moellenburg, a CSU spokesperson, said the student was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital by ambulance, where it was determined she had suffered "minor injuries."
