A group of high school and college aged men and women interested in becoming
police officers will gather on campus July 21-25 for a conference. While on
campus, the group will train in simulated situations alongside professional
police officers in resident halls and on the Lory Student Center west lawn.

Streets on campus will be closed, and the conference will include explosives
training and the landing of a Black Hawk helicopter on campus.

On Monday, July 21, Plum Street will be blocked off between the Towers and
Lory Hall for an evening activity from 4 to 8 p.m.

On Friday, July 25, the conference will provide an explosives training
demonstration. Meridian Avenue will be closed between Plum and University
Avenue from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a perimeter will be set around the Lory
Student Center west lawn to protect pedestrians.

At least four different explosive devices will be detonated sometime between
8:30-10:30 a.m.

In addition, a Black Hawk helicopter will land on the west lawn of the Lory
Student Center between 11 a.m.-noon, as part of a final exercise.

The National Law Enforcement Explorers Conference includes about 3,500 youth
and law enforcement professionals. This conference is not sponsored by CSU,
but the conference is using university facilities.
