Phil Elder's column on Wednesday urges "Go protest something." It's the one piece of advice I wouldn't protest in his "ode to frosh."
"Get stoned" somewhere in the best natural beauty of Colorado: what a great way to blunt the intelligence it'll take to preserve any of it.
Signing up for organizations without any need to participate (or even to get to know another person) is perfect preparation for the herd mentality that TV programming and political professionals know how to manipulate.
Oh, and be sure your college career includes plenty of booze. That way you won't have to get excited about ideas.
It might also help you find the courage to ski around those children and elderly (one of which Phil has been and the other of which he'll hope to be) who have no right to the ski slopes.
While you're at it, be sure to make fun of Greeley - that smell that provides the hamburgers most college kids take for granted and willingly eat.
Time for a reality check, Phil - many people have learned, to their chagrin, that your "freedoms" are the real shackles. I hope you discover that your knowledge of "how vicious and awful the world really is" has something to do with the people in it who would heed your advice.

Ms Wendland,
I must take issue with you that getting stoned is going to blunt your ability to achieve great things in life.
Bill Clinton comes to mind. (Continued…)

Craig, I would have to disagree with you. Look at this article.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080509/ap_on_he_me/teens_drugs. Also, just because all of those people on your list have admitted to smoking pot does mean that it is right. (Continued…)

Craig,
I must say that I applaud you on this one.

you got me on the illegality of it for most Mike.
I am a medical Marijuana patient so for me it is not illegal , though it is under federal law.
My point though was not the legality of it , but that smoking it does not have any relevance to intellect. (Continued…)

Smoking pot should not be the factor behind an individual's enjoyment of life.
If you need pot to "make" your college experience or end a stressful day, then I say you have issues and should find another outlet. (Continued…)

While you make some valid points , I think you present one side.
I went to a drug rehab facility when I was younger because my parents like you though smoking pot was the end of the world. (Continued…)

Interestingly enough, UCLA just released a study that links smoking marijuana to lung cancer prevention. The THC apparently prevents tumor growth.

THC is very useful for cancer patients also. I give marijuana free to anyone that has cancer , and three people I gave it to are in remission.
It is an anticonvulsant and keeps them from throwing up so much after Chemo. (Continued…)

Quit badmouthing booze. Plenty of politicians are drunks. Ted Kennedy, ummm Ted Kennedy.

Hey I am not trashing booze. But you and I both know you have heard of the term a MEAN DRUNK.
How about the age old example of the husband that gets drunk and then beats his wife. (Continued…)
