Fort Collins police officers surround a home located at 1405 Shamrock St. where Tim Lybarger, a Fort Collins resident, barricaded himself on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, afternoon. Fort Collins SWAT members responded after a call was made claiming that a domestic disturbance was taking place at the Lybarger residence between Lybarger and his wife.

At about 1 p.m. Tuesday the Fort Collins Police Department responded on scene to a male-female disturbance call at 1405 Shamrock St., where they found a "visibly upset" female standing outside of the residence with a child, FCPD said.

Officers then approached the door of the house and were subsequently threatened by a 50-year-old suspect identified as Tim Lybarger, who said he would cause harm to himself and others if any further action was taken, said Al Brown, public information officer for Fort Collins Police Services.

SWAT members arrived at the scene at about 2:50 p.m. and approximately 10 minutes later, a loud noise thought to be an explosion was heard, according to FCPD.

Officers then made a reverse-911 call to residents in the area informing them of the situation.

Lybarger has been charged with two counts of third-degree assault and domestic violence, Brown said.

Once armed with knife, the white male was taken into custody just after 6 p.m.

The scene was considered to be a non-hostage situation.
