CSU Baseball out for support
In an effort to raise money for their top-ranked club baseball team's trip to defend its national title, the members of CSU Baseball are hosting a fund-raising golf tournament May 21 at Mad Russian Golf Course.
Planned in conjunction with Party On Event Planning, the tournament will feature 18 holes of golf, a home run contest and raffle prizes. All proceeds will go to benefit the Rams in their quest to win the National Collegiate World Series for the second year in a row in Bradleton, Fla.
"It's a good opportunity to help a club in need," said CSU Baseball Vice President Nathan Klein in a press release. "We're making our fourth consecutive run at Nationals and need all the help we can get."
The course is located at 2100 Country Club Pkwy., Milliken, Colo. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event or those wanting to participate in the event can contact CSU Baseball head coach Frank Gonzalez at 217-3771.
Women's basketball in pursuit of Huskie
Former Highlands Ranch High School standout and recent member of the University of Connecticut's 2004 National Champion team Liz Sherwood is looking to transfer and counts CSU among her teams of interest. The 6-foot-4 center spent the 2004 season under the tutelage of head coach Geno Auriemma, but had an apparent falling out with the coach toward the end of the season, which she spent predominately on the bench. Neither Auriemma nor Sherwood was available for comment.
According to Lisa Eakins, CSU women's basketball administrative assistant, CSU head coach Chris Denker "is actively recruiting Sherwood at this time."
Assistant director of CSU media relations Heather Kennedy added that Connecticut has granted Sherwood permission to seek a transfer.
Last season the two-time All-Colorado selection averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, but did not play in the Huskies' last four NCAA Tournament games. Colorado, Vanderbilt and Fresno State are also schools Sherwood is reportedly considering a transfer.
