I am sure we all remember being a freshman.

Living is the dorms was fun and full of everyday adventures and experiences that were never again replicated.

Walking or biking to class was a good way of working off those calories from the dorm food along with using the Recreation Center so conveniently placed in the middle of campus.

I am sure all of you, and freshmen, too, look at that time of life as a positive memory.

However, as a freshman I never remember using Transfort for on-campus transportation.

That is right, in case you didn't already know, freshmen are using the bus service you and I depend on as their own taxi to and from the Durell Center.

At first I didn't mind this because the simple fact is they have the right to. Freshmen pay student fees just like the rest of us, and their activity cards look the same as mine.

I thought differently one day when I was late getting out of class and was not first in the mob at the bus stop.

I was told by the driver along with a few others that the bus was full and we could not get on.

As I began the walk back to my home near Rams Village on that cold afternoon, I noticed that the bus stopped like it usually does at the Durell Center and I watched about 10 freshmen get off.

I thought to myself, these kids don't want to walk less than 400 yards so people like myself have to walk further.

Other people I knew, who lived in Ingersoll last year, used to drive their cars to meter parking so they didn't have to walk to campus. THEY ARE ALREADY ON CAMPUS!

Freshmen, I make this plea to you.

Every other upper classmen and I have to get to campus somehow. Most use their cars and walk from places further away than where you live.

They do this day in and day out, regardless of weather.

The rest of us choose to use the public transportation to cut down on traffic in the Choice City, and to be honest, because there is no place to park.

Transfort is the best way to get into campus.

When I used to give tours, I advised incoming students that their years living off campus should be done within a close proximity to a bus stop.

So, please be considerate of your upper classmen and walk your "freshman-15" off by getting to class another way besides the bus, so people like me are not left without a ride home.

Thanks in advance, and if you do continue to ride the bus, that person mocking you from the back will be me as you get dropped off less than 400 yards away from where you started.
