• Be safe in the wilderness. Come learn the essentials to surviving outdoors from Papa Bear Whitmore and Don Davis of Larimer County Search and Rescue in a free clinic at 7 p.m. today at REI on South College Avenue. Topics to be covered include psychology of survival, shelters and acquisition of food and water, among others.

• The Associated Students of CSU is holding an informational forum tonight regarding the University of Southern Colorado name change. Students are encouraged to come and learn how they can voice their opinions on the issue. The forum is open to all students and will be in room 222 of the Lory Student Center at 8 p.m.

• The Department of Philosophy presents Gary L. Comstock of Iowa State University at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday in room seven of the Eddy Building. Comstock will speak about the Philosophical Basis of Arguments about Biotech. This event is free and open to the public. Come spend "An Evening with Jack Curfman" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the Cherokee Park Room of the Lory Student Center. This is your chance to ask Curfman about exhibit design, theatre design, bauhaus and travel. Faculty, staff and students are all invited to attend.

• The Women at Noon lecture series continues with Edith Weiss, a Denver comedienne, noon-1 p.m. Wednesday in the Cherokee Park Room of the LSC. Weiss, who has performed in comedy clubs, military bases, corporate conventions and university campuses, will warm your feminist heart, make you laugh, and for a few moments even curb your craving for chocolate.
